StitchLab ("we", "us") makes StitchLab, an embroidery design app, and StitchLab USB, a Wi-Fi USB stick for embroidery machines. This page explains in plain words what we collect, why, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, write to us at [email protected].
The short version
- We collect only what we need to give you an account: your email address, your name and, if you sign in with Google, your profile picture.
- We will never sell, rent or trade your information, never share it with anyone for advertising or marketing, and never collect more than StitchLab needs to work. The only companies that ever handle it are the services that run StitchLab for us (listed below), and only to do that job. We don't show ads, and we don't track you around the web.
- Your designs are yours. We use them only to turn them into stitches for you, unless you choose to share one on StitchLab Designs.
- You can ask us to delete your account and everything tied to it at any time.
What we collect
When you create an account
- With email: your email address and a password. We never see or store your password itself, only a scrambled form of it that can't be turned back into the password.
- With Google: Google tells us your name, email address and profile picture. We don't get your Google password or access to anything else in your Google account.
- The date you joined and when you last signed in.
When you use StitchLab
- Your designs: artwork, text, pictures and machine files you open in StitchLab are sent to our server so it can work out the stitches, and the result comes back to you. They're never stored on our servers: we don't keep them after that, unless you choose to share a design on StitchLab Designs (below). Your projects are saved on your own computer: in your browser and in the files you download.
- Fonts: fonts you use are read from your own computer.
- Your settings: so StitchLab is set up the same wherever you sign in, we keep your settings with your account: your machines and hoops, thread prices and thread lists, your defaults for new projects, your display choices, and the work you do on fonts in LetterLab (how you've cut, spaced and checked their letters, and your notes). This doesn't include your designs or your font files. Your settings are deleted with your account, and you can delete them yourself at any time in Your profile.
- StitchLab Designs (gostitchlab.com/designs): when you share a design, we store its machine files, the picture StitchLab draws of its stitches, its details (size, stitches, threads) and the words and photos you add, and show them to everyone with the name you choose, never your email. Reviews, replies, photos of your makes, likes and public collections are shown under your profile name; private collections only to you. While you're signed in we note which designs you download, so you can rate them; downloads while signed out are only counted. Photos are stripped of any location information before they're uploaded. Smartphones automatically embed GPS coordinates and camera settings in a photo's hidden EXIF data (Exchangeable Image File Format) whenever location services are on for the camera app, which could show where a photo was taken. StitchLab removes it for your privacy. You can edit or delete what you've shared at any time, and it's deleted with your account. Private messages are seen only by you and the person you write to, unless one of you reports one: then its words come to us by email. Who you follow and block is kept with your account (follows are public, blocks only to you). Reports you send about a design, post, profile or message go to us, the moderators.
- Technical logs: our server keeps short-lived logs (the time of a request, how long it took, error messages) to keep StitchLab running and fix problems.
StitchLab USB
StitchLab USB talks only to devices on your own home network. Its Wi-Fi settings are stored on the device itself, not with us. The firmware installer runs in your browser; installing it sends us nothing.
Cookies and storage in your browser
When you sign in, your browser keeps a small sign-in token so you stay signed in. StitchLab also uses your browser's storage for the autosave of your work and a copy of your settings (the settings themselves are kept with your account, as above). We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Do Not Track: we don't track you across other websites, so a browser's "Do Not Track" signal doesn't change anything here, and we don't let other companies collect information about your browsing through StitchLab.
Who helps us run StitchLab
To keep your information as safe as possible, we don't build sign-in or email delivery ourselves: we use established services that specialize in them and in security. The kinds of companies that handle your information for us are those that host the app, handle sign-in (and Google, if you choose "Continue with Google") and send our emails. Each may use your information only to do that job for us, and must protect it. Your information is stored in the United States.
How long we keep it
Your account information stays while you have an account. When you delete your account, we delete your account information within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep something longer.
Your choices
- See or correct your information: it's shown in your account, or ask us.
- Delete your account: write to [email protected] from the email address on your account.
- Emails: we only send emails about your account (confirmations, password resets, important changes). If we ever send news, it will be only if you ask for it, with a way to stop.
Security
Everything between your browser and StitchLab is encrypted (https). Passwords are stored only in scrambled form, and sign-in is handled by a service built for it. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you promptly if something goes wrong that affects you.
Children
You must be 13 or older to use StitchLab, and if you're under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, tell us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and for important changes we'll tell you by email or in StitchLab before they take effect.
